Prince Harry – Melting Hearts and Taking Names

The royal family often faces criticism for their work – many don’t understand why public engagements are considered a job, or why international travel on behalf of the monarchy is necessary. I can see how those who aren’t “royalists” wouldn’t quite get it, especially with the release of the annual royal finance report, but to those people I say – take one look at Prince Harry. The 29-year-old royal’s just-wrapped official visit to Brazil and Chile was a week of smiles, tears, inspiration – and bad dancing. Although it may not have received nearly as much media attention as his previous overseas tours or that of his older brother’s family visit down under, it was equally as important and extremely beneficial to the royal family and Great Britain. Why? By simply being himself, Harry was able to make each person he met across the two nations feel as though they were important to him. And you know what? They were. He’s an ambassador for Queen and country, perhaps the best there is.

Harry has proved time and time again that he is a personable, down to earth man who just happens to have a title. Sound familiar? I don’t think there is a doubt in anyone’s mind that his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, is among the proudest angels in heaven. Her youngest son’s moments of playing soccer with children, waking babies up from their naps to say hello and visiting the most underprivileged areas of cities are a page out of the Diana handbook.

While Prince Harry has had these moments everywhere he goes – playing baseball with kids in Harlem, holding hands with ill children in the Bahamas, this South American tour seemed to have more than ever. He danced to Katy Perry with disabled children, was smothered in kisses from locals, fixed a woman’s TV during the Brazil-Chile World Cup match, talked about losing his mother and his nephew, the Prince of Cheeks, and made everyone laugh. In short, he was the definition of ‘Prince Charming’ on this tour. The unprecedented mobile video message HRH recorded thanking the people of Brazil for their hospitality is proof of that. He knows that his status provides him with a vehicle for making a true difference in the world, and he refuses to let that go to waste.

So, from now on when people look at me and say I only like Prince Harry because he’s a hot, single prince or my admiration for the royals is ridiculous, I will point them to these photos and challenge them to keep from smiling. Whether you’re 102 or 2, a wounded war veteran or a child suffering from illness, Harry will charm you to the point that your heart feels like it might literally melt. He doesn’t need to try, or put on a show for the cameras – we would have seen through that by now. He’s the Prince of Hearts, and grandmother is blessed to have such a positive representative to spread the royal love around the world.

In closing, Prince Harry for president.

Many thanks to Emily Andrews for sharing her fabulous photos with me!

The Duchess of Cornwall Shines in Paris

This week marked a momentous occasion for The Duchess of Cornwall – the future queen embarked on her first solo overseas tour, a two-day trip to Paris. In a year in which Prince Charles and Camilla have begun to take on more duties with his mother, (the royal couple accompanied Her Majesty to State Opening of Parliament in May) the royal world watched closely as the eight year royal stepped out on her own. The verdict? Two thumbs up.

Traveling by Eurostar, Camilla’s time in “The City of Light” included a reception, a speech – in French, a visit to fashion House Dior and a private viewing of the Mona Lisa (the Louvre is closed to the public on Tuesdays).

Rebecca English, Royal Correspondent for The Daily Mail, summed up what appear to be the feelings of most who traveled with her:

RE

She then elaborated to me that, “Most remark on how surprisingly approachable she is. There is a warmth they don’t expect…”

Combating previously negative sentiments from both the people and the press, Camilla has begun to come into her own as of late, clearly a rock for Prince Charles and lending support to the newest member of The Firm, The Duchess of Cambridge. This tour was yet another step to solidifying her place in people’s hearts, as put by Sky News Royal Correspondent Paul Harrison, it was, “A move many would have deemed unimaginable a few years ago, Camilla mixed with the Parisian elite at a reception in front of the cameras, once territory reserved for Diana, Princess of Wales..”

In what may be one of the most on-point and interesting take on the landmark visit, CNN’s Max Foster shed light on what most people may have had in the back of their minds – the comparison to the late Princess Diana. Foster truly summarized it perfectly when he said, “We’re being given in a sense Camilla, queen-in-waiting, not just Prince Charles’s wife.”

I, for one, cannot wait to see more from The Duchess of Cornwall.

Can Every Day be “Prince Harry on a Charitable Mission” Day?

Someone pass me the defibrillator, this day is giving me a heart attack. Prince Harry was in Lesotho today to carry out work on behalf of his charity, Sentebale. Harry has always said that he feels he can truly be himself in Africa, and we definitely saw that today – my swoon levels when the photos came out were through the roof.

Harry completely let loose with the children of Lesotho as he participated in a sign language lesson, strapped on a Paddington Bear apron to cook in the kitchen, take in a soccer match and dance. Oh, the dancing.. I’m beginning to think the real purpose of these trips abroad is to compile the world’s greatest ‘Dancing with the Star’s audition tape. But WHERE are the blue suede shoes?

A man who can cook, dance and is good with kids.. well done, Cressida Bonas.

Oh and if that weren’t enough, he then hopped a train to Johannesburg, South Africa to speak at a fundraising gala for Sentebale. Yes, this means he was in a tux.

At the gala Prince Harry spoke of his mother, Princess Diana, and his hope that she would be proud of him and the work he is doing for HIV/Aids in Africa. Harry has had a lot to worry about in his life – the paparazzi, the Taliban..his mother being proud of him will never be one of them.

So many thanks to @HWalesWatch for being so on top of things as always and of course, @RE_DailyMail, @ChrisJack_Getty, @RoyalReporter and all of the top royal reporters sending us updates from Africa.

Throwback Thursday!

Welcome to the first post of my newest blog installment – Throwback Thursday! After Harry’s return last week and the last minute ambush to get posts up, I got to thinking about the “royal news cycle.” When something major happens the posts go up like girls’ swoon levels when they see H in his fatigues, but no news = no posts. Throwback Thursday is my solution! From now on, I will revisit a favorite royal moments/news stories from B.B. – before blog. Let’s see how long this lasts..

In honor of Captain Wales’ return (yes, I will be celebrating this for a while), I’m throwing it back to where it all began for the soldier prince..

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

When Harry was eight-years-old, his mother, Princess Diana, brought him along to visit the barracks of the Light Dragoons in Hanover, Germany. From then on Harry dreamed of being in the army and he was destined to have that dream fulfilled. That’s funny, in 1993 I was dreaming of becoming a princess.. yea, I’m looking at you Captain!

???????

Twenty years later Prince Harry has returned from his second tour of duty in Afghanistan and was named top co-pilot gunner in his class. He has also grown into that uniform quite nicely..

Happy Birthday Prince Harry!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY FAVORITE ROYAL!

Twenty-eight years ago today, Prince Charles and Princess Diana welcomed Prince Henry Charles Albert David into the world at 4:20 p.m. at St Mary’s Hospital in Central London. Weighing in at 6lb 14oz, the red-headed baby prince (better known to all of us as “Harry”) became the cutest thing in Britain and not much has changed since.

Although Prince Hottie has been known to throw down at wild parties over the years, he is spending his 28th birthday in a completely different world – fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan. Today marks the Apache helicopter pilot’s second full week on his second tour of duty and instead of tequila shots and a bevy of blondes, Captain Wales rang in his birthday with an horrific attack on his base, Camp Bastion. The Taliban has claimed the violent attack, which killed two U.S. Marines, was aimed at the birthday boy.

So for your 28th birthday, Prince Harry, I send wishes of safety and pray that you return to home to the UK in four months completely unharmed. Oh, and shoot down some bad guys..like, a lot of them.

Princess Diana, Always Remembered

On the fifteenth anniversary of her tragic passing, we remember Princess Diana for the light, love and happiness she brought to this world.

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.”

Rest Easy, Diana.. July 1, 1961  – August 31, 1997

Happy 30th Birthday William!

Happy 30th Birthday Prince William!

On this day thirty years ago, Princess Diana and Prince Charles welcomed Prince William Arthur Philip Louis into the world, and for that we are forever grateful to them. Making his appearance at 9:03 p.m., the 7lb 1 1/2oz. baby William immedaitely became the apple of the nation’s eye, and not much as changed since then.

Now, thirty years later, William –  aka The Duke of Cambridge, The Earl of Strathearn and The Baron of Carrickfergus – celebrates his special day alongside his wife of more than a year. Having spent the day hard at work for the Royal Air Force, William is said to be relaxing during a private celebration at Highgrove with loved ones.

For your 30th year I wish you happiness, good fortune, dance lessons for your trip to the Soloman Islands, a successfully pulled prank on your brother and a pregant wife.

Thank you for being such an inspiration to us all. .you are loved!

Hey Harry, Call Me..Maybe?

Last night was Katie Couric’s special episode of 20/20 – “The Jubilee Queen.” For those of you who were able to watch, you know that it had its touching moments..and its ridiculous moments. What was my favorite moment?

“I’ve longed for kids since I was very, very young. And so … I’m waiting to find the right person, someone who’s willing to take on the job.” – Prince Harry

Oh yea, William says he and Kate are keen on having kids as well..but let’s focus on Harry, shall we? If you recall, in his March interview with Seth Doane, Harry spilled the beans that, “I’m 27 years old, and not so much searching for someone to fulfill the role, but obviously, you know, finding someone that would be willing to take it on.”

I don’t know if it was the water in Brazil or his kiss from model Fernand Motta, but the eligible bachelor has been all about letting American journalists in on his romantic hopes and dreams.

Harry, it’s okay.. I know you might think dropping hints to American journalists, who I clearly follow, is the way to get my attention but if you call, I promise I will pick up the phone. Stop sharing your personal feelings with the media and just call me, maybe.

If you were following my live tweets last night, you may have realized I have put my sassy pants on one leg at a time prior to watching (@RoyallyKate and @PetiteHRH can attest to that). In all seriousness, despite it’s “Dumb American” moments (Would you kill me if I went on the balcony? Does your grandmother text you? Maybe the Queen will friend me on Facebook..), there were some special highlights that caught my attention..

She would have loved Kate..” – William on his late mother, Princess Diana

She had the best seat in the house probably.” – Harry on Diana not being here for the royal wedding

You don’t mess with your grandmother.” – Prince William

I’m just very keen to have a family and both Catherine and I, you know, are looking forward to having a family in the future.” – Prince William

Once you’re in the military, she means a lot more to you than just a grandmother. She is the queen. And then you suddenly, it’s like start realizing, you know, wow, this is quite a big deal. And then you get goose bumps and then the rest of it.” – Prince Harry on his grandmother

Without him she would be slightly lost I think.” – Prince Harry describing his grandparents’ relationship

The man is an absolute gem.” Arthur Edwards on Prince Charles

Fascinators off to you, Katie Couric.

and no, I am not actually expecting Prince Harry to call me.. I’m not delusional 🙂

Catch me if you can…

Time to play a game of royal catch up! I was absolutely shocked when I logged on to write this post and realized my last was on May 4..that is just unacceptable! If it helps, I was spending a lot of that time doing British related things. I would also like to thank the firm for having some of their busiest weeks while I was too preoccupied to blog about it all.

May 7 – Prince Harry Visits Washington D.C.

Daily Mail

Prince Harry just can’t stay away from the United States! The young, philanthropic royal spent the day in the nation’s capital to accept 2012 Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership from The Atlantic Council. Harry was awarded the honor for his work with servicemen and women; I am sure you are all familiar with Captain Wales’ charitable work with Walking with the Wounded. Prince Harry accepted the award on behalf of his brother, Prince William, who was not in attendance. General Colin Powell introduced the tuxedo-clad prince, making note of all the single, young ladies present for the event and praising him for his work both on and off the battlefield. Perhaps my favorite moment from his introduction came when he said, “Clearly the loving effort Diana made to teach her sons the importance of serving others has touched the heart and souls of her two sons and continues her legacy.” During Harry’s remarkable and inspiring speech, he did appear nervous, but had the audience laughing and most likely even crying as he praised his fellow soldiers. The Telegraph has a video of Harry’s speech, or you can read the transcript at PrinceofWales.gov.

Prior to the evening’s black-tie festivities, Prince Harry hit the British Ambassador’s residence to mingle with American and British disable athletes who participated in the Warrior Games. The Vice President’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, was also in attendance for the event where Prince Harry got down and dirty, planting a ceremonial tree.

May 8 – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Attend a “Secret” Dinner

E! Online

On May 8, Prince William and Catherine stepped out at Claridge’s hotel in Mayfair for a private reception at the Thirty Club, where William was due to make a speech. Once again, it was his wife who stole the show in a jaw-dropping cream dress and my favorite Jimmy Choo sparkling sandals. From the moment she stepped out of the car, this high-slit Roland Mouret floor-length gown became one of my top Kate looks of all time. Paired with the sky-high stilettos, dropped diamond earrings and glittered clutch, Kate proved to be flawless once again. Thank goodness she had the sense to stay away from colored drinks that evening.

May 10 – Prince Charles, Weatherman?

In a moment of pure hilarity, Prince Charles visited BBC Scotland and took his turn at presenting the day’s weather report. Although the short script was pre-written, that did not stop The Prince of Wales from making viewers laugh during his hour-long visit to the Pacific Quay headquarters. If you feel like having a giggle, I would suggest checking out the video from BBC.

PopSugar

Remember when I said the cream floor-length was my new favorite Kate look? Yea, scratch that. Mini-Middletons were having heart attacks all across the globe when The Duchess of Cambridge, alongside her husband The Duke of Cambridge, stepped out for the Team GB London 2012 event in this Jenny Packham evening gown. After months of begging via Twitter, Kate followers got what we wished for – a bright color and hair up! Kate, have you been following the #teambrightcolors #teamhairup hashtags? As the icing on the decadent cake, Kate even strapped on my favorite Jimmy Choo sparklers for the gala at Royal Albert Hall. As Olympic Ambassadors for this summer’s Games, William and Catherine spent the evening with fellow ambassadors and Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Prince William made his way to the podium for an inspiring speech, chock full of humor and well wishes for Team GB.

May 13 – Audi Polo Challenge

US Weekly

Over the past week we had them separately, but on this Sunday afternoon in Ascot, the three musketeers reunited for the Audi Polo Challenge. Princes William and Harry took to the field for the charity polo match, but it was the newest member of the family who had all eyes on him – Lupo. The royal pup, accompanied by his mum The Duchess of Cambridge, played on the sidelines before presenting congratulations to the brothers after their win. In another teal number, this time from Libuela, Kate and Lupo had heads turning at Coworth Park.

May 18 – Sovereigns’ Lunch at Windsor Castle

Telegraph

On Friday, royals and representatives of monarchies from 26 countries flocked to Windsor Castle for the Sovereigns’ Lunch in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. Although the meeting was not without controversy (is that even possible when diplomats from around the world gather in one room?) The British Royal Family seemed to enjoy themselves and looked fabulous while doing so. The Queen looked lovely as always in a pale blue number, while once again The Duchess of Cambridge had fashionistas spinning with her nearly $2,000 pale pink Emilia Wickstead’s knee-length dress. Once again, I would like to thank Kate for throwing a splash of color into her wardrobe! I am convinced she is reading our Twitter feeds – weren’t we all just thinking pink not too long ago? I must say, if you’re going to go High Street for an occasion, this would be the one; the international luncheon gave the new royal a chance to converse with fellow royals from around the globe unlike ever before. Prince William and Prince Harry, along with their cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, were among the young members of the firm on hand.

E! Online

That evening, Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall hosted the ensemble of royals for a dinner reception at Buckingham Palace.

Okay, now I am exhausted…the royals sure know how to keep a girl busy.

Harry the Hippo

Last week, The Daily Mail broke the most adorable Harry story – a baby hippo in South Africa has been named after the equally cute prince! Harry the hippo was born March 22, 2012 at The Cango Wildlife Ranch in South Africa. Unfortunately, for the 11 pound pygmy hippo, his parents rejected him and he has been left in the care of the sanctuary staff. Fortunately for the staff, Harry is proving to be quite the bundle of joy, even cozying up to his caregivers. Since royal news has been slow lately, why not have some fun with this story? I present to you – “Similarities Between Harry the Hippo and Harry the Prince.”

1. Ladies’ Man

Miller & Maclean

Getty

How does the saying go – you’ve got to kiss a lot of hippos to find your prince? Above, Harry the hippo is seen licking his full-time caregiver, Toni Inggs, while Prince Harry gives a quick peck to Brazilian model Fernanda Motta. It is no secret that the 27-year-old British Royal has a way with women (case in point, the girl writing this blog post..), and his miniature friend has gone out and snagged himself a female caretaker. Touché little hippo.

2. The Royal Treatment

Miller and Maclean

Daily Mail

After his mother and father, Hilda and Herbert, could not fend for their offspring, Toni Inggs took over as the endangered hippo’s ‘mom.’ Young Harry has to be fed every three hours; the staff at the sanctuary has embraced him, caring for him around the clock. Born into royalty, Prince Harry grew up surrounded by people to care for him, including his nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke.

 3. Traumatic Childhood Experiences

Miller and Maclean

As mentioned above, after 210 days of pregnancy, Harry’s hippo mother rejected her son, leaving him without a mother. In 1997, Prince Harry tragically suffered through the untimely death of his mother, Princess Diana, after she was killed in a Paris car crash. In the past 15 years, Prince Harry has gone on to make his mother proud, even establishing a charity in her honor. The sanctuary staff knew just what they were doing in naming the baby hippo Harry, giving him a strong name will only help throughout his life.

4. Africa

Miller and Maclean

People Magazine

Other than their admiration for Prince Harry, one of the reasons the team at Cango Wildlife Ranch bestowed the regal name upon the hippo was Harry’s love for Africa. During his gap year from school, the budding royal spent time on the continent and established his charity, Sentebale.

Harry the Hippo and Prince Harry..two of a kind. Now I think it’s time for the dashing prince to visit South Africa and meet his mate! What a photo opp that would be..
