Hey Harry, Call Me..Maybe?

Last night was Katie Couric’s special episode of 20/20 – “The Jubilee Queen.” For those of you who were able to watch, you know that it had its touching moments..and its ridiculous moments. What was my favorite moment?

“I’ve longed for kids since I was very, very young. And so … I’m waiting to find the right person, someone who’s willing to take on the job.” – Prince Harry

Oh yea, William says he and Kate are keen on having kids as well..but let’s focus on Harry, shall we? If you recall, in his March interview with Seth Doane, Harry spilled the beans that, “I’m 27 years old, and not so much searching for someone to fulfill the role, but obviously, you know, finding someone that would be willing to take it on.”

I don’t know if it was the water in Brazil or his kiss from model Fernand Motta, but the eligible bachelor has been all about letting American journalists in on his romantic hopes and dreams.

Harry, it’s okay.. I know you might think dropping hints to American journalists, who I clearly follow, is the way to get my attention but if you call, I promise I will pick up the phone. Stop sharing your personal feelings with the media and just call me, maybe.

If you were following my live tweets last night, you may have realized I have put my sassy pants on one leg at a time prior to watching (@RoyallyKate and @PetiteHRH can attest to that). In all seriousness, despite it’s “Dumb American” moments (Would you kill me if I went on the balcony? Does your grandmother text you? Maybe the Queen will friend me on Facebook..), there were some special highlights that caught my attention..

She would have loved Kate..” – William on his late mother, Princess Diana

She had the best seat in the house probably.” – Harry on Diana not being here for the royal wedding

You don’t mess with your grandmother.” – Prince William

I’m just very keen to have a family and both Catherine and I, you know, are looking forward to having a family in the future.” – Prince William

Once you’re in the military, she means a lot more to you than just a grandmother. She is the queen. And then you suddenly, it’s like start realizing, you know, wow, this is quite a big deal. And then you get goose bumps and then the rest of it.” – Prince Harry on his grandmother

Without him she would be slightly lost I think.” – Prince Harry describing his grandparents’ relationship

The man is an absolute gem.” Arthur Edwards on Prince Charles

Fascinators off to you, Katie Couric.

and no, I am not actually expecting Prince Harry to call me.. I’m not delusional 🙂

Catch me if you can…

Time to play a game of royal catch up! I was absolutely shocked when I logged on to write this post and realized my last was on May 4..that is just unacceptable! If it helps, I was spending a lot of that time doing British related things. I would also like to thank the firm for having some of their busiest weeks while I was too preoccupied to blog about it all.

May 7 – Prince Harry Visits Washington D.C.

Daily Mail

Prince Harry just can’t stay away from the United States! The young, philanthropic royal spent the day in the nation’s capital to accept 2012 Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership from The Atlantic Council. Harry was awarded the honor for his work with servicemen and women; I am sure you are all familiar with Captain Wales’ charitable work with Walking with the Wounded. Prince Harry accepted the award on behalf of his brother, Prince William, who was not in attendance. General Colin Powell introduced the tuxedo-clad prince, making note of all the single, young ladies present for the event and praising him for his work both on and off the battlefield. Perhaps my favorite moment from his introduction came when he said, “Clearly the loving effort Diana made to teach her sons the importance of serving others has touched the heart and souls of her two sons and continues her legacy.” During Harry’s remarkable and inspiring speech, he did appear nervous, but had the audience laughing and most likely even crying as he praised his fellow soldiers. The Telegraph has a video of Harry’s speech, or you can read the transcript at PrinceofWales.gov.

Prior to the evening’s black-tie festivities, Prince Harry hit the British Ambassador’s residence to mingle with American and British disable athletes who participated in the Warrior Games. The Vice President’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, was also in attendance for the event where Prince Harry got down and dirty, planting a ceremonial tree.

May 8 – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Attend a “Secret” Dinner

E! Online

On May 8, Prince William and Catherine stepped out at Claridge’s hotel in Mayfair for a private reception at the Thirty Club, where William was due to make a speech. Once again, it was his wife who stole the show in a jaw-dropping cream dress and my favorite Jimmy Choo sparkling sandals. From the moment she stepped out of the car, this high-slit Roland Mouret floor-length gown became one of my top Kate looks of all time. Paired with the sky-high stilettos, dropped diamond earrings and glittered clutch, Kate proved to be flawless once again. Thank goodness she had the sense to stay away from colored drinks that evening.

May 10 – Prince Charles, Weatherman?

In a moment of pure hilarity, Prince Charles visited BBC Scotland and took his turn at presenting the day’s weather report. Although the short script was pre-written, that did not stop The Prince of Wales from making viewers laugh during his hour-long visit to the Pacific Quay headquarters. If you feel like having a giggle, I would suggest checking out the video from BBC.

PopSugar

Remember when I said the cream floor-length was my new favorite Kate look? Yea, scratch that. Mini-Middletons were having heart attacks all across the globe when The Duchess of Cambridge, alongside her husband The Duke of Cambridge, stepped out for the Team GB London 2012 event in this Jenny Packham evening gown. After months of begging via Twitter, Kate followers got what we wished for – a bright color and hair up! Kate, have you been following the #teambrightcolors #teamhairup hashtags? As the icing on the decadent cake, Kate even strapped on my favorite Jimmy Choo sparklers for the gala at Royal Albert Hall. As Olympic Ambassadors for this summer’s Games, William and Catherine spent the evening with fellow ambassadors and Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Prince William made his way to the podium for an inspiring speech, chock full of humor and well wishes for Team GB.

May 13 – Audi Polo Challenge

US Weekly

Over the past week we had them separately, but on this Sunday afternoon in Ascot, the three musketeers reunited for the Audi Polo Challenge. Princes William and Harry took to the field for the charity polo match, but it was the newest member of the family who had all eyes on him – Lupo. The royal pup, accompanied by his mum The Duchess of Cambridge, played on the sidelines before presenting congratulations to the brothers after their win. In another teal number, this time from Libuela, Kate and Lupo had heads turning at Coworth Park.

May 18 – Sovereigns’ Lunch at Windsor Castle

Telegraph

On Friday, royals and representatives of monarchies from 26 countries flocked to Windsor Castle for the Sovereigns’ Lunch in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. Although the meeting was not without controversy (is that even possible when diplomats from around the world gather in one room?) The British Royal Family seemed to enjoy themselves and looked fabulous while doing so. The Queen looked lovely as always in a pale blue number, while once again The Duchess of Cambridge had fashionistas spinning with her nearly $2,000 pale pink Emilia Wickstead’s knee-length dress. Once again, I would like to thank Kate for throwing a splash of color into her wardrobe! I am convinced she is reading our Twitter feeds – weren’t we all just thinking pink not too long ago? I must say, if you’re going to go High Street for an occasion, this would be the one; the international luncheon gave the new royal a chance to converse with fellow royals from around the globe unlike ever before. Prince William and Prince Harry, along with their cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, were among the young members of the firm on hand.

That evening, Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall hosted the ensemble of royals for a dinner reception at Buckingham Palace.

Okay, now I am exhausted…the royals sure know how to keep a girl busy.

Happy Anniversary William and Catherine!

I know everyone is saying this today, but wow..can you believe it has been a year?! It feels like yesterday I was up at 3:00 am, crying my eyes out. Yes, I cried – don’t tell me you didn’t too! And then I went to work with puffy eyes; I may have been a little late that day (don’t worry, i was given the ok to watch the kiss before heading in).

Today, William and Catherine, now known as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, celebrate their first year of marriage..after nearly a decade of dating. I don’t think anyone ever had any doubts that they would coast through their first year, happier than ever. To honor the special day, I am taking a “Will & Kate” approach to this blog post – simple. Word around town is that the young royal couple will be keeping it low key and carefree today – very true to form. I am sure many bloggers/royal watchers will be commemorating the day with lists of favorite moments and such, so I would like to share with you my top William and Catherine moment from their first year of wedded bliss..

AP

The above picture, taken after the dragon boat races Dalvay-by-the-Sea on Prince Edward Island, completely captures the essence of William and Catherine’s relationship – and the reason why we all adore them. During their first royal tour together just a few months into their marriage, the competitive lovebirds showed their skills in a friendly race, followed by this absolutely adorable moment. This photo embodies the playfulness, compassion, adoration and total love these two have for each other. I also think it displays what a seemingly normal couple they are; a trait that royal fans everywhere admire and can relate to. Sure, she wears tiaras, he will one day be a king and they save the save the world in their spare time..but deep down they are just a regular, married couple – right?

Anniversary Gifts…

The customary first wedding anniversary gift is paper, so why not give William and Kate the best kind of paper…MONEY! As most of you know, in lieu of wedding gifts the philanthropic duo asked guests to donate to The Prince William & Miss Catherine Middleton Charitable Gift Fund, which raised approximately $1.7 million for 26 charitable organizations that are special to The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

As I did for Catherine’s 30th birthday this past January, I encourage those who would like to give the couple who has everything an anniversary gift, to donate to one of their many chosen charities, including:

Tusk Trust, Centre Point UKThe Art Room, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, Action on Addiction,  The National Portrait Gallery and The Scout Association. To learn about other causes close to the couple’s hearts you can visit The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

Best Wishes from the Fans..

Two nights before the big day I had an idea.. wouldn’t it be nice to have William and Catherine supporters share their hopes for their favorite couple? Yes, the chances of Will and Kate actually seeing these thoughts are one in a million, but is always nice to put good vibes out into the universe and dream that they come true. So, I posed the following question to my royal Twitter family – “What is your wish for Will & Kate during their second year of marriage?

@jennkamienski – a happy marriage like mine

@thecambridges – Happy Anniversary, Will and Kate. May the second year (and many those to come) bring just as much love, warmth and success as the first.

@RoyallyKate – Happy one year anniversary, Will and Kate! You’ve all brightened the lives and opened the hearts of many this past year. I wish you so many more years to come, and endless and indefatigable amounts of love and support to come your way in the future. Here’s to a successful year for a beautiful couple! We love you!

@FabulousKate13 – I wish them another enchanting, amazing, and successful year. May the years to come only bring them happiness and joy. Xx

@Kates_Wardrobe – 4 Kate : an outfit by unexpected designer Ford, Westwood, Saab

@RoyalKateDebate – Congratulation Will and Kate on a wonderful first year of marriage. Your love for each other has captured the world’s imagination. Thank you for sharing your day with us. My wish is that you continue to have the strength in your relationship that you have shown in the past 10 years.

@HRH_KLynch – I wish happiness for the both bc will deserves it. And healthy babies!

@allthingsregal – Hmmmm… dare I say a baby willkat?

@nina_lux – Besides happiness, more time together, a bb and world domination? Not much

@ARightRoyalBlog – Wish people would stop clicking on pap shots of them.

@Royaljournalist – Hoping for twinsc called prince George and princess Victoria.

@MPHenriksen – Wills stays in the military. They have a baby or at least Kate is preggers by the end of yr two.

@HuffPostStyle – Kate to take more fashion risks!

@Kimmi1287 – I’m thinking the one with the real love and respect not for money and tv

@RoyallyObsessed – BBBBAAAAABBBBBIIIIEEEESSSSS

@shan_harrison – I wish for William and Kate to have another year of wedded bliss… And to get another puppy

My wish for William & Catherine’s second year of marriage – that the guiding hand doesn’t fade away and they continue to look as happy as they do in the above photo. Oh, and I wouldn’t mind a royal bun in the oven (would that be considered a scone 😉 ?!). And for Kate to add some bright colors to her wardrobe. And Will should find some new suits. But mostly, keep doing what you’re doing young, beloved royals! xoxo

Happy Anniversary William and Catherine! Thanks for being so fabulous and sharing your love story with the world.

Royal Wrap-Up

Hello royal friends! I know I have been delinquent in my blogging duties lately – I blame my recent vacation to Hawai`i. Now that I’m back, let’s catch up on the events of the past few days!

Queen Elizabeth II Celebrates Her 86th Birthday – Saturday, April 21

Credit - The British Monarchy

This past Saturday, Her Majesty turned 86-years-old with the help of a 21-gun salute from the Royal Navy. The annual salute took place at Portsmouth Harbor on the south coast of England. Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday will be honored again on June 16 with a special celebration at Buckingham Palace.

The London Marathon

On Sunday, April 22, 37,5000 took to the streets for the 32nd annual London Marathon. Despite “beating” the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, in a friendly race in Jamaica last month, Prince Harry was there to show his support. The 27-year-old prince awarded medals to the participants, but of course it would not be a Harry appearance without a little fun and games; Harry teased the crowds that William and Kate would run in the 2013 marathon. Erase that penciled in date off your calendars, Mini Middletons, The Palace confirmed Harry was up to his usual tricks and the comment was purely a joke. Hey, they still have a year to change their minds..

Prince Harry to Return to the United States

It was announced on Monday morning that in two weeks time, Prince Harry will make a very welcome return to the United States on May 7. Harry will be honored by the Atlantic Council at a dinner in Washington D.C., receiving the council’s “Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership.” The award is in recognition of the charitable work by he and his older brother, Prince William, for wounded servicemen on the road to returning to civilian life. I would like to add that the nation’s capital is only 3 hours from me, so, if anyone has any connections at the Atlantic Council, I am currently accepting applications for my new best friend.

Finally, I would like to share the best thing Huffington Post Style has ever created – a year in the life of Prince Harry. Swoon away… The Huffington Post, Style.

The article even resulted in a http://twitter.com/#!/HuffPostStyle/status/194851229027930112 from your very favorite blogger..me!

A Landmark Day for The Duchess of Cambridge

Today was the day we had all been waiting for! No, Catherine is not pregnant – she gave her first public speech! With her husband far away in the Falkland Islands, the former Kate Middleton visited The Treehouse at East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices in Ipswich. Catherine, a Royal Patron of EACH, visited and formally opened the new $4.8 million hospice for Essex and Suffolk. You can learn more about this new facility and the momentous occasion here.

After greeting a crowd of well-wishers (yes, Catherine seems to have throngs of excited fans wherever she goes), HRH made her way inside to give her first official speech as a royal. The three-minute speech was delivered beautifully, although Kate admitted later that she finds “doing speeches nerve-wracking.” She may have faltered slightly, but it was an absolute job well done by the freshly minted Duchess of Cambridge. My favorite part of the speech? The fact that she wrote it herself! This truly speaks to Catherine’s character and dedication to the cause; it was evident throughout that she truly meant every word and it was coming from the bottom of her heart. A lighthearted moment came when the newlywed brought up her husband, The Duke of Cambridge, saying: “I’m only sorry that William can’t be here today. He would love it here.” I know I am not alone when I say that Prince William must be lighting up the Falklands with pride for his wife!

You can watch Catherine’s full speech here, courtesy of Hello! Magazine.

Once the speech was out of the way, Catherine had time to focus on the children whom she called “inspirational.” On a tour of the grounds, HRH met with staff and visited the sensory and music rooms – part of what makes EACH so welcoming and unique. As Kate said in her speech, the pre-conceived notion of what a children’s hospice would be like was quickly squashed when she visited the Milton facility, remarking that it was “Far from being a clinical, depressing place for sick children, it was a home. Most importantly, it was a family home, a happy place of stability, support and care. It was a place of fun.” Kate had a chance to interact with some of these children and their families, including a three-year-old dying boy, granting his parents’ wish of a photo to memorialize the occasion. She also had a touching moment in a music class with a young girl by the name of Bethany Woods.

Although it was by no means the most important part of the day, we must address the fashion! As I was getting ready for work, debating what I would wear today, a rather comical Twitter debate ensued as to the exact color of Kate’s recycled Reiss dress. Was it purple? Blue? Indigo? Electric Blue? Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner with electric blue! Also up for discussion was whether Kate borrowed the dress from her mom Carole, as she had previously bee photographed in the frock. The palace later confirmed that it was the other way around – the dress was Kate’s, mom just went shopping in her closet. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly Kate wardrobe watchers are able to identify pieces from her collection! After scouring the label’s site for a solid description, Rebecca English was able to find out the dress, called Trina, was from the 2008 Autumn Winter collection.

An Interview with Victoria Arbiter

Last week, I had the honor of conducting a special interview with royal expert Victoria Arbiter. After chatting on Twitter for some time, I was curious to learn more about this CBS News royal contributor; Victoria quickly agreed to let me pick her brain on all things royal. Victoria is a true veteran; growing up a stone’s throw from our favorite family (her father Dickie Arbiter is a broadcaster, journalist and former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth II), Victoria has done everything from go-carting with Princess Diana to sitting alongside Katie Couric for last year’s royal wedding.

Aside from touching stories about Her Majesty and the family, Victoria opened up about how she got to where she is today and what her dream royal assignment would be. In accordance with recent news, Victoria provides her thoughts on Prince Harry’s tour, America’s fascination with the royals and who she owes a huge thank you to (hint: they have a big anniversary coming up). She even offers up advice for the newest generation of royal watchers, so pay attention! If you are not following Victoria on Twitter, please do so @VictoriaArbiter.

You have worked with everyone from Perez Hilton to Oprah – what has it been like to truly run the gamut of reporting?

In a word it’s been a tremendous privilege. Thanks to my job I have been fortunate enough to have the chance to see and do so many different things. I never thought I would be standing on stage next to Oprah or kayaking across a bio-luminescent bay in Puerto Rico. Work has made me push the envelope and often times I have had to step out of my comfort zone and do things that have been utterly terrifying, but I’m always glad I had a go. It really does prove that anything’s possible and I’m excited to see what the future holds in store.

To date, what do you see as the greatest highlight of your career?

While it may seem like an obvious choice in terms of career highlights, it would be pretty hard to beat covering last year’s Royal Wedding for CBS News. It was an enormous privilege to have a front row seat to such a historic event but also to work alongside people like Katie Couric and Erica Hill. They are among the best in their field and I had many a pinch me moment throughout the three months I reported on the wedding. It was a thrilling time to be in London and on a personal note it was wonderful to be able to share the experience with my father.Aside from the wedding another huge career high was finding myself on the set of CBS This Morning for the premiere show. As we were chatting I suddenly had a moment when I thought I’m the one doing all the talking and here we have Charlie Rose, Erica Hill and Gayle King listening to what I have to say. It had been a long road to that point and my gratitude at being there was overwhelming. I so admire Charlie Rose. He really makes you raise your game and I absolutely love the challenge of having an answer for even his trickiest questions.

Although you grew up around journalism, accompanying your father to important state occasions, you turned to acting and dance. What has brought you back full circle to where you are today?

To be honest where I am today has all happened completely by accident. As a child I dreamed of being a ballet dancer and I went to a full time ballet school from the age of 12. A back injury at 18 resulted in me having to stop dancing so drama school seemed like the obvious next choice. In a quest for a change of scenery I decided to move to New York to attend The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. When I finished school I got a “survival” job working for a web TV company and within 6 weeks I had moved from answering the phones on reception to working as the Senior Entertainment Correspondent. From there I continued in the broadcast world but really I had to wait for a job to open up that would best suit my area of expertise. I honestly don’t remember a time when the royal family didn’t serve as a backdrop to my life. I grew up in Windsor, opposite the castle. We lived at Kensington Palace for a time where I met Diana on several occasions and sadly I attended her funeral. When William and Kate got engaged it was finally a big enough event for networks to start seeking experts and that’s when the call from CBS came in. It was a tremendous honor and I feel like I owe William and Kate a huge thank you letter. In hindsight I can see that all roads were leading to this one opportunity. My childhood gave me a look at life both in front and behind palace walls and no doubt much of my knowledge was picked up by osmosis simply from tagging along with my Dad, but finally I feel at home in my career and I hope to have this job for many years to come.

As Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Diamond Jubilee year, what is your favorite memory of Her Majesty?

Oh, I just adore the Queen and my husband teases me relentlessly…..apparently whenever I see her I say, “Doesn’t the Queen look lovely today.” It makes him laugh every time but I am immensely proud of her and I believe our country is better for having her. There are so many moments in time when I have admired her, but I suppose the time she broke my heart really stands out the most. The Queen has only been seen to cry in public once and it was when HMY Britannia was decommissioned in 1997. It was a devastating blow to her due to all the personal moments and family history that had been shared while on board. It was a floating sanctuary of privacy for her and had meant a great deal to her. She’s so admired for her stoicism but that day we saw her vulnerability which was a stark reminder that she too is only human and yet she has dedicated her life to her country. She’s there no matter what and we could all stand to learn from her strength, dedication and determination.

Prince Harry just wrapped up is first overseas tour on behalf of his grandmother; there has been praise on how he handled himself and questions raised as to how the family will leverage him in the future – what is your take on this? Many are beginning to compare him more to Princess Diana..

There’s no question Harry has done a spectacular job and I have always said that he embodies the very best qualities of both his parents. He’s kind, compassionate, funny and game for anything which makes him instantly likable and accessible. The Queen knew what she was doing in choosing to send Harry in particular to Belize, the Bahamas and Jamaica. He has won over the old and young alike and he has clearly risen to the ranks of rock star status which in turn has done wonders in terms of sentiment towards Britain. While Harry will continue to take part in public engagements once he’s home his first responsibility will be to his military career. He will be redeployed to Afghanistan later this year as well as serve as an official ambassador for the Olympics so the remainder of his year promises to be very busy. We will see great things from Harry as his royal career continues and he has made no secret of his desire to continue the work of his mother. I think she would be very proud of the man he has become.

What is your favorite story since covering the royal family? A moment or memory that stands out more than the rest?

Bizarrely my most memorable moment since covering the royal family doesn’t directly involve one of the royals. A couple of weeks before the wedding the press had been given access to the Household Cavalry Barracks in Knightsbridge to see a demonstration of what they would be doing come wedding day. I have always been a bit of a geek when it comes to pomp and pageantry and so as far as I was concerned this was going to be a plum assignment. Little did I know however, that they were planning on pulling out all the stops. It was 7:30am on a grey and rainy morning and we were all tired. We had been gallivanting up and down the country trying to cover every little detail in the final days leading up to the wedding and this was just another early start. As we were all standing around having a moan I suddenly heard the thud, thud, thud of what sounded like an approaching drum. Just then through the trees in Hype Park came 200 Cavalry Officers on horseback playing the most beautiful piece of music. It was so breathtaking to see and it was a private display just for the assembled press. I was completely out of my mind with excitement and equally heartbroken that my little boy wasn’t there to see it. Following the display we were given a tour of the barracks, shown the exact uniform Harry would be wearing on wedding day and then treated to a fanfare by the State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry who would be inside Westminster Abbey on the big day. Simply amazing and a memory that I will cherish forever.

The royal family seems to be gaining more support and interest on a daily basis – a great deal of which has come from the United States. What is your take on the sudden boom from “across the pond?” Do you see if continuing to grow as the younger royals take the stage, or fall off as the wedding becomes a more distant memory?

Americans have always loved the British Royal Family but it has been a long time since the glory days of Charles and Diana so I think last year’s royal wedding really reignited the public’s fascination. I think they look to William and Kate as the happy ending Diana never had and they’re thrilled to see the couple so clearly in love. Interest has continued to grow since the I do’s from endless talk of fashion to when there will be baby so I don’t expect the fervor to die down anytime soon. Add to that the fact that Harry has risen to the ranks of the world’s most eligible bachelor, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations are coming up and London will be hosting the Olympics and you have plenty to keep people chatting for the foreseeable future.

What advice do you have for new “royal watchers?” It appears most new followers are of the younger generation. Any words of wisdom?

The best piece of advice I could give to anyone starting out is KNOW YOUR STUFF. I can’t even begin to tell you how many inaccuracies are reported and to me it just shows sloppy work. I saw one journalist refer to Harry as the Prince of Wales this morning which I find unforgivable. Some might say that’s silly and it’s just a title but it’s flat out wrong and we look to reporters to bring us factually correct information. So many stories seem to be pulled out the sky these days in an effort to sell newspapers and I find it incredibly irritating. Before reporting anything it is your responsibility to fact check and then cross fact check. Of course errors will be made but take responsibility for them and get back to the business of reporting correct information. Otherwise you just end up with egg on your face. Do your research and learn who the reliable sources are. If in doubt don’t put the story out as once it’s in the public domain you lose all control over it. I suppose the rules would be…

 1. Know your stuff

2. Show up on time/meet your deadline on time

3. Be nice to everybody as you never know who is connected to who

4. Keep out of other people’s business – show up, do your job and do it to the best of your ability while letting others handle their own jobs.

Is there something you have observed about the royal family that would surprise people?

The one trait people never seem to give members of the Royal Family is a sense of humor. They are all blessed with a very quick wit and you’d better be on your toes when the cracks start flying. You see a little more of it shine through with William and Harry but it really is across the board.

Traveling all over the globe, what has been your favorite destination? If royal correspondence could take you anywhere, what would your dream location be?

Ah, this is a tricky one as I truly do love an adventure! If I could travel to any location of my choosing with a royal of my choosing then I would relish the opportunity to take in Kenya with either William or Harry. I was born in Zimbabwe and I have a deep love for Africa so I think it would be fascinating to see the entire continent through their eyes. Knowing Harry he’d probably want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, but how fun would that be?!

Outside of the royal family, who has been your most interesting interview? Most exciting assignment?

Another tricky one…..I suppose the interviewees from the celebrity world who have surprised me the most would be Nicole Kidman and Uma Thurman. It was still quite early in my career when I had the chance to chat to them and I have to say both were extraordinarily kind and gracious. In terms of exciting it would have to be the Bee Gees. They were in New York to promote their one night only by request concert and were giving interviews at The Russian Tea Room. I’m a bit of a granny when it comes to music so it’s pretty safe to say that I have always loved the Bee Gees. All three of them had a wicked sense of humor and they were utterly charming, but what makes that memory especially poignant for me is that it was the last time that they were altogether for an interview in NY as Maurice died a couple of years later.

Many, many thanks to the lovely Victoria for taking time out of her busy schedule to give me such heartfelt, thought out answers to my questions. It was an absolute pleasure getting to know her a little bit better and I hope we cross paths on the streets of New York one day!

Getting Artsy with The Duchess of Cambridge

While the ball and chain away, the wife will…work? Wait, that’s not how the saying goes..

The Duchess of Cambridge was back to work for her patronages yesterday, just a week after making her first official solo engagement. Catherine spent Pancake Day visiting two schools on behalf of The Art Room. Last year, Kate Middleton spent Pancake Day with her fiance flipping pancakes in Belfast; my how things have changed!

First up – Rose Hill Primary School, where Catherine arrived to a crowd of well wishers. In fact, the crowds were so excited to see their beloved Catherine, Max Foster tweeted that between The Duchess of Cambridge and all of the teenage girls he wished he brought earplugs! Once inside, Catherine visited with a group of eight children as they worked on a poem.

The Duchess of Cambridge continued her day at Oxford Spires Academy School. While visiting The Art Room facilities there, Catherine met with both current and former students and heard of how the organization had imrpoved their lives. The Duchess of Cambridge aproned up and spent time with the children as they painted.

Both appearances left students, staff and onlookers in awe of Catherine as she earned high praise from all who interacted with her. The Art Room trustee Pat Norman was quoted as saying: “It’s very special that we have her patronage.” Perhaps Mr. Norman is alluding to Catherine’s strong connection to the arts; students and teachers alike commented on her knowledge and understanding of the program. As you will recall, The Duchess of Cambridge has a deep-rooted passion for the cause; she graduated St. Andrews University with a degree in History of Art.

The Duchess appeared in a coat dress by Irish designer Orla Kiely. As usual, the brown, patterened frock, which looked stunning on Kate, had the Twitter universe fluttering with discussion. Personally, I could never pull the pattern off (most others I have chatted to agree), but Catherine wore it well. Can that woman do no wrong? I have yet to see her look bad. I was disappointed to see her hair down; it would have been nice to see it up as she wore it for the Skid Row day of arts in Los Angeles. I have to hand it to her though – if I had spent the day around paints and children with my hair down, I would come out with fresh highlights!

Finally, after curiosity over the most guarded royal secret since Kate’s wedding dress, the name of the Cambridge puppy has been revelead – Lupo! Wait..what? Yea, that was my reaction too. Chances are if you placed your bets in Las Vegas, you lost big. Lupo is an adorable name;will be curious if we ever learn the meaning behind it!

Duchess Catherine Shines at National Portrait Gallery

Tonight marked The Duchess of Cambridge’s first solo public engagement in her role as a royal. Catherine attended the National Portrait Gallery preview of  Lucian Freud Portraits at the gallery, one of her newly chosen patronages. The new exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery highlights more than 100 works of art from Lucian Freud, who passed away last year. Need a refresher on Catherine’s cause? Learn more about the gallery and how you can help support Catherine’s cause here.

Let’s be honest, most people stare at their Twitter feeds rolling in for the answer to one simple question: What was she wearing? Nearly a year into her royal marriage, we are used to seeing gorgeous frocks from a handful of designers – Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham and Alice Temperley – but this evening, the always elegant royal surprised us all by stepping out in Jesire number. After much questioning in the twitterverse as to wear Kopy Kates could find the fabulous frock,  Richard Palmer (@RoyalReporter) shared word from the palace that the label had gone into liquidation. Although it may not be easy to replicate, this has quickly taken a spot as one of my favorite looks from the stylish duchess thus far. Simple, understated and elegant, Catherine paired the gray, belted, cold-weather coat dress with sky high pumps and sparkling jewels. I love that she stepped out of the box for her this milestone appearance; the above-the-knee full skirt was complemented by an over-sized collar. One thing is for sure – royal watchers have yet to see the newly minted royal in heels this high! I spy a platform! High shoes for a highly important woman of the world 🙂

Now, let’s get to those photos!

Week in Review: Jan. 30 – Feb. 4, 2012

I think I spoke too soon when I said there was a lull in royal news as there was no shortage of stories this past week! With the very special occasion happening on Monday, wanted to recap the week’s happenings. I, for one, was thrilled with the endless stories on Prince Harry in the last few days..so let’s get to it!

The Diamond Jubilee

This Monday, February 6, marks the date that Princess Elizabeth officially became Queen Elizabeth. As you can imagine, there are endless articles, photo galleries and videos being released leading up to the big day; will post more on that later, but for now here are some headlines surrounding the celebrations..

  • Church of England: Prayers and Liturgical Resources – the official prayer to be used in the Church of England during the Diamond Jubilee year was released.
  • The Daily Express: The Queen’s 60 Glorious Years in Pictures to be Celebrated in Public Display – photos of The Queen’s 60 years on the throne are now on display at Windsor Castle. Entrance to the exhibit entitled: The Queen: 60 Photographs for 60 Years, is included in the price of general admission to Windsor Castle.
  • The Telegraph: The Queen plants Diamond Jubilee tree in Sandringham – earlier this week, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Anne planted an oak tree at Sandringham Estate, which will be at the center of the new 20-acre Jubilee Wood, honoring the milestone.
  • ABC News: Spice Girls Reuniting for Queen Elizabeth II Celebration?one of my favorite stories surrounding the Diamond Jubilee this week; there is talks of the Spice Girls reuniting for the June 4 celebrations. What better time to reunite the leaders of the “Girl Power” movement than for Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee? That has girl power written all over it..

Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

After a quiet holiday in the Caribbean with Catherine’s family, the dynamic duo took the media by storm this week with announcements and their general fabulousness. We are happy to have them back!

Prince Harry

My favorite royal was out and about this week; from news on his Diamond Jubilee tour itinerary and his participation in the Walking with the Wound organization.

Additional Dates: Prince Harry supported Walking with the Wounded on Feb. 3 as they launched their Everest expedition. On Feb. 10 & 11, Harry will be at the Newbury Racecourse.

Week in Review: Jan. 8 – 14, 2012

Hello Royal Watchers! Apologies for the lack of updates this week, I was quite sick for a few days – blogging is a little difficult when you can’t stay awake! Now that I am on the mend and caught up on all of my regal news, thought it would be a good idea to compile all of the week’s headlines in one post.  This is a simple post to get back in the swing of things and share the week’s news. I was hoping to do more in-depth posts on major stories, however that was just not possible this week. I promise to be back with clever posts soon and continue to work on taking this site to the next level.

There was not shortage of headlines this week; from controversy to accolades, royal news was all over the map:

The Duchess of Cambridge

As always, Catherine was a daily fixture in the news this week- from a milestone birthday to show-stopping fashion moments, she has held our attention..

Royal Gifts – 2011

Diamond Jubilee

  • London Evening Standard: Fit for a Queen: first sight of barge to lead Diamond Jubilee river pageant – An 88 foot rowbarge will be gifted to The Queen after it leads the family in the June 3rd Queen’s Diamond Jubilee pageant down the Thames River. The gift will become the first state barge in the monarch’s possession in nearly a century
  • Travel with Val: Upper East Side British Candy Store Looks Forward to a Jubilee Year – This is not a story that has made major royal headlines, in fact, unless you are from the New York City area you may not have heard of it. It is not a necessarily a news making story, but for us Americans it is something to look forward to in 2012. For those of us who can’t make the hop across the pond, this NYC British candy store – The London Candy Company – will be all decked out and serving the most extensive selection of British candies this side of the Atlantic Ocean.
